The number one question I get is "when are you going to make a deodorant"? Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll ever launch one. For about a year I worked on and tested deodorant formulations, but even the best deodorant we made caused a bit of baking soda sensitivity (contact dermatitis) even with the lowest percentages of baking soda, and we just didn't want to add something we weren't 100% sure our customers would love. Lately, I've been on my own search for natural deodorants and I've come across a few good ones. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://primalpastures.com/collections/all-products/primally-pure" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pz1ygcDhSHk/VTrPAa5XLVI/AAAAAAAAAyM/f8EHA-XB0oU/s1600/IMG_5033.JPG" width="600" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Usually I buy one and it works fabulously for a while, then inevitably my body adjusts to it and it gives me some sort of issue, such as irritated skin, or just stops working all together. Until I found <a href="http://schmidtsdeodorant.com/" target="_blank">Schmidt's Deodorant</a>. It's really a great deodorant. I love the scent combination options, that it comes in glass packaging and, most of all, that it works. And continues to work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(Natural deodorants are not antiperspirants. Your body should sweat. It's kind of important that it does. So, if you're looking for something that will keep you from sweating, you won't find it here.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After I'd been using Schmidt's Deodorant for a while, I was introduced to <a href="http://primalpastures.com/collections/all-products/primally-pure" target="_blank">Primally Pure Deodorant</a>. Primally Pure is a new company, but I've been using their deodorant for the past month and it's been incredibly effective. I also haven't experienced any irritation from it. That's a WIN! Keep reading for the break down of pros and cons (my opinion) of these two deodorants.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><a href="http://schmidtsdeodorant.com/" target="_blank">Schmidt's Deodorant</a></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pros:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Glass packaging</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(if it melts, it can cool again without leaking)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Scent combinations</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Great customer service</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Continues to work for months and months</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cons:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You have to apply it with an applicator </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(but it is in a glass container, so...)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I experienced a little bit of baking soda sensitivity after a week or two of using.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(not as bad as some natural deos, but it's still there)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Consistency is kinda hard so you really have to rub it in</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><a href="http://primalpastures.com/collections/all-products/primally-pure" target="_blank">Primally Pure Deodorant</a></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pros:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Application is easy - like traditional deodorant</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Great customer service</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The consistency is creamy and goes on easily</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It works and I don't get any sensitivity</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Continues to work (one month in!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cons:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Plastic packaging</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It doesn't last as long as Schmidt's Deodorant</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(probably due to the creaminess - you end up using more. because they both contain 2 oz. of product)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
More expensive on the cost and shipping</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
SUMMARY</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you want convenience and effectiveness and you don't really mind the extra cost, <b><a href="http://primalpastures.com/collections/all-products/primally-pure" target="_blank">Primally Pure Deodorant</a></b> takes the cake. Their product is superior. It <i>does</i> contain tallow (which is what contributes to minimal baking soda sensitivity) so if you're vegan, this might be a deal breaker. Otherwise, their product works really well and is easy to use.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you want a win-win and aren't really sensitive to baking soda, <b><a href="http://schmidtsdeodorant.com/" target="_blank">Schmidt's Deodorant</a></b> is the most responsible and economical overall. It works really well, costs less, lasts longer, and their product is packaged in reusable glass jars.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Okay, so I have a new obsession. Honestly, I'm not really a huge accessory person. When I was first engaged, it took me months to get used to the new clunky hunk of metal on my finger. I would slam it into surfaces, snag my sweaters on it, and forget to put it on all the time. But, I've gotten used to the idea of wearing jewelry as of late, although I'm still a work in progress. I stumbled upon <a href="http://betsyandiya.com/" target="_blank">betsy and iya</a> while browsing Instagram (<a href="http://instagram.com/betsyandiya" target="_blank">@betsyandiya</a>) and fell in love with their shop. I love that their products are handmade (like ours!) in Portland. Maybe someday, we'll get to work with them. As promised (to my IG followers) here's what came in the mail a few days after I made my first purchase:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How adorable is this ring? I was thinking about <a href="http://shop.betsyandiya.com/collections/rings/products/night-watch-simple-wide-gold-ring?variant=216213612" target="_blank">this one</a>, and I even had it in my cart, but I ended up settling on the <a href="http://shop.betsyandiya.com/collections/rings/products/night-watch-simple-wide-gold-ring?variant=216213612" target="_blank">Night Watch ring</a> because it seems the most versatile for me and the safest bet since I'm working on getting used to accessorizing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was wearing my new ring today and was lucky enough to have Kara Noel (from <a href="http://www.smallthingsarebigthings.com/" target="_blank">small things are big things</a>) around (we maybe kind of live together) to get a few pictures of me working. I've been wrapping soaps for a customer's shower favors (my favorite.. I love helping make someone's celebration day special).</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sb4WL0Eow30/VF1TCp-V1jI/AAAAAAAAAts/jjaqpui6eEA/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sb4WL0Eow30/VF1TCp-V1jI/AAAAAAAAAts/jjaqpui6eEA/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-2.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This year we pretty much threw together super last minute. Pinterest came in handy and as for Donald, well, he just made his costume up out of thin air. It's pretty epic if you ask me. In case you're wondering, I'm a lady out of a comic book and Bailey is an old woman. Her costume was so fun to make.. and we had mostly everything we needed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Sbbq9QAfMiI/VF1SaUHm47I/AAAAAAAAAtE/X1qjNdWSDYE/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Sbbq9QAfMiI/VF1SaUHm47I/AAAAAAAAAtE/X1qjNdWSDYE/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-6.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my dress - yes, an adult sized dress. It just happen to have this hand drawstring in the middle that ties as tight as you want it to. So, we cinched it right up and clothes pinned the back so that the straps stayed up on her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RP7zXzBc1zw/VF1ScGkLgQI/AAAAAAAAAtY/4st0ieWaaMA/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RP7zXzBc1zw/VF1ScGkLgQI/AAAAAAAAAtY/4st0ieWaaMA/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-8.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went to the craft store to get gray yarn to make a wig for Bailey, but then I saw these cute bobbin thingamajigs. I thought they would make perfect little rollers for her hair. So, we painted them pink and rolled them up with mini bobby pins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6SEQIu2qK1k/VF1ScnBLaTI/AAAAAAAAAtg/xF4YbPV28nw/s1600/Halloween14-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6SEQIu2qK1k/VF1ScnBLaTI/AAAAAAAAAtg/xF4YbPV28nw/s1600/Halloween14-1.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
We added a cardigan, purse, "cane"... and, of course, a tennis ball and she was ready to go!</div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7OfudjC7QXQ/VF1SaKk01NI/AAAAAAAAAtA/j_8u3qL8ZE0/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7OfudjC7QXQ/VF1SaKk01NI/AAAAAAAAAtA/j_8u3qL8ZE0/s1600/Halloween%2B2014-3.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Oh, and some sandals WITH socks. :)</div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Dana helped... a lot. And I helped paint her face like the stunning FOX she is. ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Hope you're Halloween was fun! What did you dress up as? </div>
</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">What are phthalates? </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">To prevent being labeled a chatty Cathy, we like to give you information on a NEED-TO-KNOW basis – and in this case, you NEED to know what Phthalates are because they are so commonly used that they are referred to as an “everywhere” chemical. This over-used chemical is what makes plastic flexible, holds color in cosmetics and helps bind fragrance oils together. THIS is where the documentation of phthalates pulls a Run DMC and gets tricky.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Just because your soap smells like your favorite scent of green apple crisp on a fall day at sunset (seriously though, scents give no room for the imagination anymore.. they’re <i>that</i> descriptive) it’s about as unnatural as it smells. Manufacturers can mask the listing of phthalates in delicious smelling products under the broad umbrella (ella, ella eh, eh) of “fragrance”. It’s time for you to know the consequences of a seemingly simple listing in which phthalates is more than likely present.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Why are phthalates harmful?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Phthalates post more of a risk than just not knowing how to properly pronounce such a complicated word (I’m not alone here, right?) </span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="color: #222222;">

<ul style="background-color: white;">
<li><b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">They’ve been found to interfere with normal brain function since they are endocrine disruptors. </span></b></li>
<li><b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Phthalates also send signals through your body that could result in Autism, Breast Cancer, Testicular Cancer and reduced sperm counts and testosterone levels in males.</span></b></li>
<li><b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Studies have shown phthalates to cause adverse effects passed down from mother to fetus when pregnant women are exposed to them. This ranges from premature breast development and abnormal sexual development in girls to less masculine behavior and reduced sperm count in boys.</span></b></li>
</ul>
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">These are high and lasting prices to pay for a fleeting smell and pretty color in your soap and cosmetics.</span></span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Where are phthalates? Phthalates are found in almost anything "fragranced". From air fresheners to shampoo to soap! Here are a few common products:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>perfume</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>hair dye</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>hair spray</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>deodorant</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222;"><b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">nail polish</span></b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>insect repellant</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>carpeting</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>plastic toys</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>shower curtains</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>tap water</b></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>most anything with "fragrance" in the ingredients</b></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">How to avoid phthalates?</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Phthalates might be impossible to avoid <i>altogether</i>, but that's why it's so important to know where they are so that you can avoid them as much as possible. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Avoid "fragrance".</b> Phthalates are rarely ever listed on an ingredient label. When it comes to soaps, cosmetics and smelly things, "fragrance" almost always means phthalates. Look instead for products that say "essential oils only" or "no synthetic fragrance". </span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Avoid plastic whenever possible</b> and never heat food in a plastic container. Even phthalate free containers contain harmful chemicals that can be absorbed by your food when exposed to heat. </span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Eat organic meat, dairy and produce.</b> Phthalates are present in pesticides and sewage sludge which are both used in conventional agriculture. Neither are allowed in certified organic products. </span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Say goodbye to hand-me-down plastic toys. </b>Before 2009 phthalates were not regulated in plastic children's toys so toss any items you own if you think they may have been purchased before then. Now they are and most toys will not contain them. Look for BPA free also. </span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Install a water filter. </b>A nano filter is probably the better option as some filters don't get out everything. But even a standard granular activated carbon water filter should reduce the amount of phthalates absorbed by your water from the plastic water pipes. </span></li>
<li><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Buy soap, cosmetic and skincare products from companies that are committed to product integrity. </b>Here are a few recommendations: </span></li>
</ol>
<ul><span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
<li><b>soap + skincare: http://www.bambuearth.com</b></li>
<li>deodorant: http://www.schmidtsdeodorant.com/</li>
<li>nail polish: http://www.scotchnaturals.com/</li>
<li>make your own hairspray: http://wellnessmama.com/11624/natural-hairspray-recipe/</li>
<li>9 all-natural perfumes: http://bit.ly/1pSe6yj</li>
</span></ul>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span>
<br />
<div>
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">Phthalates are truly all around, but knowing what they are and how they are listed is the first step in avoiding them. Your skin is like a sponge that absorbs most of what is put on it. Ensure that what you are putting on your skin is promoting health for your precious loved ones and yourself – not stripping you of it – by being responsible about your soap and skincare.</span></span></div>

You convince so many people into thinking you’re made solely to be cut open and gutted. Sure, you offer seeds that are tasty to toast and eat. You invite children into the opportunity of playing with knives when their parents wouldn’t otherwise let them. You act as décor, too. But let’s be honest, you go unnoticed next to that pie that is made up of your insides.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-indent: 0;">
Did you know that pumpkin benefits our body most when it is used on our skin? What it is made of is crazy power to exfoliate, brighten, soften, soothe and prevent aging. If you thought you liked pumpkin before, get ready to Fall (no pun intended. Ok, you caught me – maybe a little) in deep love with the plump little fruit you didn’t use on your skin before. The ingredients that comprise our precious pumpkin make it is skin POWERHOUSE. Here’s the method to pumpkin’s madness:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>ZINC</b> – Residing in those tasty seeds, it actually helps cure acne by controlling the hormone level and oil production of your skin. (TWO FOR ONE SALE) Zinc also fights inflammation.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>FRUIT ENZYMES & ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS</b> – We’re glad these two came to play! They increase cell turnover, and act as a natural exfoliator - which means your skin will be smoother <i>and</i> brighter - resulting in a more even skin tone that won’t throw the color wheel off by figuring out in which color group it belongs.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS & VITAMIN E</b> – Those seeds are at it again! Because of them, your skin’s sebum will be regulated – which is just what oily skin needs to be put into check.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>VITAMIN A & VITAMIN C</b> – Prevent signs of aging by boosting your collagen production with these incredible vitamins. They aid in the softening and soothing of your skin as well. Just like you, your skin should have it’s daily vitamins!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>ANTIOXIDANTS</b> – There’s nothing better than having an ingredient actively fighting the free radicals we are exposed to daily in the form of polluted air and environmental toxins. Thanks for acting as a barrier to keep our skin safe, antioxidants! You rock.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
See, Pumpkin? That wasn’t so bad. It’s good to come clean and reveal what you are capable of. I don’t think our readers will view you in pie form the same - EVER. AGAIN. Like our very own superhero – Pumpkin is working hard to protect and serve once it hits our skin. Keep on, keeping on Pumpkin. You do your beneficial thang!</div>

<br />
The Creator of the universe created you and I. He has a plan for us. He has a plan for me. Sometimes I get really caught up thinking this life that I'm living is about me. About <i>my</i> family. About <i>my</i> friends. About <i>my</i> happiness. About <i>my </i>business. Then, God showers his grace upon me with a sobering moment of clarity amidst the fogginess of my "self". <i>It's not about me.</i> <i>It's about Him. </i><br />
<br />
Thank God for that. Because, if it was about me, my life would be a meaningless pile of human efforts added to the trash heap that's already collecting. And, I do mean meaningless. Since we were literally created by the Creator and he loves us and has a plan for us, the only thing that matters is that we are in relationship with him and allowing him to use us for his plan. Because, at the end of the day, God is good. Since he is good, his plans are good.<br />
<br />
So, I can trust him. Does that mean only good things will happen to me in my life? Nope. But this life is temporary anyway and he tells us this life will bring trouble. What is good lasts for eternity. So, if I'm suffering through life (like everyone does) and not doing God's good will, what good is my life? But if I'm suffering doing God's will, then my life becomes what it was created to be which will "set the world on fire" making the suffering all the more worth it. The bonus? He gives me things like peace, self-control, gentleness and kindness so it's kind of a win-win.<br />
<br />
God, help my heart to be turned toward you, your goodness and your plans. I want the world to know you, to know your goodness, to have the hope and peace only you can bring.<br />
<br />
Thanks for joining me on my thought journey today.<br />

Love. & motherhood.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bOgdhxah3po/VCMFZU8WelI/AAAAAAAAArQ/PVCDEnivPB8/s1600/turkey.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bOgdhxah3po/VCMFZU8WelI/AAAAAAAAArQ/PVCDEnivPB8/s1600/turkey.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
Limerence. It is what we call "falling in love". Well, it may be a little more than that and the definition actually involves behavior based on reciprocated feelings, but that's for another time. Basically, what I'm talking about is that time when we are so infatuated with someone new that we would do anything to be around them. Like when I met my now husband, I would have gone anywhere at any time for a chance to see him. I think I thought that I was "in love". But, back then it really wasn't love at all. It was selfish infatuation. Because I wasn't really sacrificing for the sake of him. When we are infatuated, we are sacrificing for our own benefit so that we can have that "feeling" of love. True love starts when limerence fades. When the butterflies are fewer and farther between. We don't "fall out of love". We "fall out of infatuation" and that's when we really have the opportunity to choose to love someone. To sacrifice when we don't get a feeling out of it. With no ulterior motives.<br />

Does love sound like a feeling? It sounds more like sacrifice and hard work to me. But like most hard work, there's payoff.<br />
<br />
The difference with motherhood, is that I was in love from the start, even alongside infatuation. I sacrifice daily for her and would go to the ends of the earth for her. I stare at her and adore every expression and discovery she makes. But, I feel like motherhood has finally set in. The newness is fading and I'm actually starting to feel like a mom. Some days it's hard to be patient and persevere, but my love for her keeps growing and The Lord gives me strength.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ssyvofTDOkQ/VCMXbR8I1RI/AAAAAAAAArg/f6397yDG_2g/s1600/turkey2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ssyvofTDOkQ/VCMXbR8I1RI/AAAAAAAAArg/f6397yDG_2g/s1600/turkey2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Although, there are still those days, like today. I have a glorious moment of disbelief. I think to myself <i>"i have a daughter..."</i> and once again I get that feeling that reminds me that I was once utterly infatuated. I look at her and can't believe half of my husband and half of me is wrapped up into one little beautiful person staring back at me. I get butterflies in my tummy and giggles that bubble up and out of my mouth as I sink into the present moment.<br />
<br />

My husband loves peach cobbler. Like, really, really loves it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OL1-8ctvqiw/VB-PuW-D43I/AAAAAAAAArA/DXsKq3FkFGw/s1600/Peach%2Bpie%2Btitle%2Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; text-align: center; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OL1-8ctvqiw/VB-PuW-D43I/AAAAAAAAArA/DXsKq3FkFGw/s1600/Peach%2Bpie%2Btitle%2Bcopy.jpg" width="600"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I never had the pleasure of meeting my mother in law because she passed away before I met my husband. There are so many moments I've wanted to share with this incredible woman whom I've never met but feel like I know somehow. I would have wanted her to give me the 3rd degree when her son brought me over to meet her for the first time. I would have wanted her to be at our wedding giving a speech only a mother can and taking way too many pictures. I would have wanted her to hold Bailey in her arms for the first time and see her son stare back at her through her granddaughter's eyes. I would have wanted to do crafty things with her... Donald tells me we have that in common. I wish we could have spent holidays cooking together. When Donald talks about his mom's cooking, it isn't long before he'll bring up her peach cobbler. He raves about it and how I would love to have helped her in the kitchen following along to her recipe. I've made a few different recipes trying to capture his favorite dessert pastime with little success. But as silly as it sounds, that recipe is one thing I wish I had so that I could make something for him that so much reminds him of her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are so many moments I would love to have, but would never take the opportunity even if I could. Because she's in a far better place, in paradise, in the presence of Jesus who dries every tear and far surpasses any joy we can have on this earth. I'll still try new cobbler and pie recipes because there's even joy in the attempt of it. Although I have a feeling no peach cobbler I could ever make will be quite the same. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's my latest and it was really amazing (but not quite Sheila's). Thank you, Sheila, for inspiring me through pie making even though you're not here, I feel like it brings us closer... and I'm doing my best to love your son and granddaughter. ;)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Love,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Your daughter in law,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Amber</div>

Her team leader was looking for donations so they could throw a spa party for the CHE leaders. These amazing women who donate their time to the community were treated to manis, facials and relaxation. What an amazing way to thank them and show them the love of Jesus!<br />

Everyday I wake up next to this little bundle of joy is a blessing. I can't describe the feeling I get when I look at her and watch her learn, grow and discover right before my eyes. Trust me, I've tried to describe it to my husband and it only mildly gives it justice. It's magical how the simple things like a trip to the park can be so filled with love, life and laughter. It gives me a deeper understanding of God's vast love.</div>

You've heard a bit of buzz around crowdfunding. Maybe you've heard about Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Maybe someone has asked you to back their project. But you ask yourself <i>what exactly is it? Is it charity? Is it some kind of donation? Do I get something in return?</i> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Maybe you've never heard those terms and crowdfunding is brand spankin new to you. In either case, I've put together an infographic that should help you out. Here I break it down and make it really simple for you to get the concept of crowdfunding, it's definition and how it helps businesses <i>and </i>you. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In a nutshell, crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people. A few people give a little money to raise a lot of money and reach a common goal. That goal can be anything from making a movie, to opening a store, to manufacturing an invention! The crowdfunding model I outline in the graphic below explains a rewards based model also. Sites like Kickstarter allow the project creator to offer rewards levels backers can choose from. This means if you back a project, you also get some cool stuff in return. On top of that, you get to be a part of some new venture or project that you might have a passion for. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In my graphic below, I've used <a href="http://bit.ly/bekickstarter">our Kickstarter campaign</a> to give you an example of how you and the project creator benefits. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Maybe it's the season. Maybe it's because I have a three month old daughter who makes me smile everyday. Maybe it's because I have a husband who loves me through action. He goes to work everyday, cooks dinner, cleans, does laundry and is an incredible father. Maybe it's because I'm reminded daily I have a savior who died on the cross for my sins and now I'm forgiven and free. Free to be who I was created to be. Free to dance and sing. Free to not be consumed with the ever evasive and unfulfilling chase for success, money or beauty. Free to know I am beautiful (because He created me and every hair on my head), successful (because if He is for me, who can be against me?) and rich (because He has given me an inheritance in His eternal Kingdom). Thank you Lord for your goodness.<br />

This week was our big "Hoe Down" put on by our church, Rock Harbor
Mission Viejo. Honestly, I'm so blessed to be a part of such a fun
community of believers who truly love as Jesus loved. The Hoe Down was a
time to gather as a community, invite family and friends and just have a
lot of fun. We had pulled pork sandwiches, slaw, baked beans, and good
ole fashioned cornbread. I did a little face painting for the ga-jillion
kids who go to our church. There were sack races, a bake-off, and they
even had a "caller" who taught us how to square dance. Of course, I
jumped right in with Bailey asleep in the Ergo like a little kangaroo.
Who says you can't doe-see-doe with a 12 week old? Seriously, it was so
much fun. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CZyREwoLTJU/UoZqt683p5I/AAAAAAAAAkg/CbbYCLlw8qs/s1600/1415258_541329789275059_303952290_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CZyREwoLTJU/UoZqt683p5I/AAAAAAAAAkg/CbbYCLlw8qs/s640/1415258_541329789275059_303952290_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
One of the biggest reasons I was anticipating this
particular event was because I entered the bake-off with my maple bacon
salted caramel cupcakes. I fully expected to win. I pulled out a chair
to sit when they started to announce the bake-off finalists. So,
naturally, I slid my chair back in ready to go up and claim my prize. Of
course I was going to win.. Did they call my name? No. I was shocked. I
made a brown sugar cupcake filled with salted caramel, topped with
maple swiss buttercream, BACON and a hard candy caramel halo and it
didn't even place? What more does a baker have to do? Turns out they
forgot to taste my cupcake. I'm pretty sure God was trying to humble
me. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Anyway, I thought I'd share my cupcake recipe with you. It was a HUGE hit, even though it didn't win. </div>

Apricot Shortbread Bars<br />
<br />
Honestly, this recipe is a personal favorite. Mostly because it's delicious, but what really makes it my fave is how EASY it is to make. If I'm ever in a pinch and need to whip up a crowd-pleasing plate of something amazing, this is my go-to.<br />
<br />
You can use any jam you want. Raspberry and blackberry is especially good, but apricot is what I had in my fridge left over from making apricot & manchego grilled cheese appetizers.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TBrMTlwhur4/UhfLjD42JoI/AAAAAAAAAhA/ZQj5eQP8bxQ/s1600/IMG_9473.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TBrMTlwhur4/UhfLjD42JoI/AAAAAAAAAhA/ZQj5eQP8bxQ/s640/IMG_9473.JPG" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
For these particular bars, I decided to cut them into heart shapes since they are for a friend's bachelorette party. I thought it would be much cuter than the typical squares. You could use any shape or just cut them into bars. <br />
<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0nY7d2aOUR4/UhfLj_cAqUI/AAAAAAAAAhY/3V6xLUDHPQ0/s1600/IMG_9476.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0nY7d2aOUR4/UhfLj_cAqUI/AAAAAAAAAhY/3V6xLUDHPQ0/s640/IMG_9476.JPG" width="600" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Recipe: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temp.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3/4 cup granulated white sugar</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3/4 teaspoon salt </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1/2 cup almond flour</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3 cups all-purpose flour (I used all-purpose unbleached wheat flour)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 1/2 cups jam of choice (I used apricot since I had it on hand, but blackberry or raspberry is delish)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Directions:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Spray edges of cookie sheet with nonstick spray. I used coconut oil. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. I spray a bit of coconut oil in the middle too so that the parchment stays in place. You could also use a silpat or spray your entire cookie sheet if you don't have parchment on hand, but it makes for tougher time to get pretty shaped bars in the end.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Make the shortbread: In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine butter and sugars; beat until creamy. Add salt and vanilla and beat until well combined. Beat the almond flour and all-purpose flour into the butter mixture on low speed, just until a smooth dough forms. Don't overmix or your shortbread will be tough. Divide the dough in half. Wrap one half in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. In the mean time, press the other half of the dough into the bottom of the prepared cookie sheet to form the bottom crust. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Bake the crust until it is just beginning to turn tan around the edges, about 15 minutes. Remove sheet from oven. Let the crust cool until firm to the touch. Spread jam evenly over the partially baked crust. Crumble the remaining shortbread dough over the jam to form the top layer. At this point you can press it down or leave it crumbly. It depends on what look you want to go for. If you want to be able to see the jam through the top, leave it crumbly. If you want a more layered look, press it down over the jam so that it is completely covered. Return the sheet to the oven and continue baking until the topping is firm and golden in color, about 25 minutes. Transfer the entire sheet to a wire rack to cool.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Cut into bars. As I mentioned above, you can cut these into any shape you'd like. I used a heart shaped cookie cutter. If you want the most out of your bars without leaving scraps, cut them into regular ol' squares. They're just as beautiful. Keep in a covered container at room temp for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 1 month. Enjoy!</div>
